Scenes from the Sublime

[LTH008]

Inspired by visual masterpieces, Scenes from the Sublime unfolds in ten resounding tableaux. Each piece travels through the whimsical world of a painter, offering both an interpretation of the work and an invitation to delve into other realms of illusion and fantasy.

Neraterrae’s second album is the work of a careful craftsman. A profound depth of textures is enriched by delicate details, bringing the audience to discover unheard elements at each listen, creating a sense of awe and unsettlement. Joining him on his quest for splendour, an impressive range of collaborators lend their talent to this multidimensional work of art - Alphaxone, Dödsmaskin, Leila Abdul-Rauf, Mount Shrine, Phelios, Phragments, Shrine, Xerxes The Dark, George Zafiriadis from Martyria and Yann Hagimont from Cober Ord.

We are proud to present Scenes from the Sublime in collaboration with long-standing music label and publishing house Cyclic Law.  Listen to excerpts here

The Substance of Perception

[LTH007]

Cassette tape reissue. Originally published by Cyclic Law in April 2019.

“The Substance of Perception” is a daring collaborative work featuring some of the finest artists from the Dark Ambient, Drone, Cinematic and Ritual Music scene: Northaunt, Alexey Tegin from Phurpa, Treha Sektori, New Risen Throne, Flowers For Bodysnatchers, Taphephobia, Ugasanie, Xerxes The Dark and Infinexhuma. The sound palette shifts between both stark atmospheres, melancholic ambiance and dense claustrophobic drones. Alternating between obscurity and light and oscillating between the ineffable detachment from the tangible and the relentless transmogrification of the self. Artwork by Nihil & Daria Endresen.  (Description from Cyclic Law)

Automatisme Feat. Thisquietarmy
Station

[LTH006]

Station spun from a feeling of suspension, held in between two locations, two states. That flickering in the existence that makes us feel alive, connected or isolated, and at the same time opens all our senses to the world.

Using a limited quantity of instruments and pushing them to their limit, Station feels at times extreme and uncomfortable, other times, familiar and comforting. Automatisme’s random generators confer a sense of instability, as travelling to the unknown, something new to be discovered at every corner. It opens the mind to spontaneity, forces us to accept imperfection as profound truth, and reminds us not to hold on to anything. In this cyclic existence, nothing is fixed in time, nor in space.

Thisquietarmy uses his unique signature approach to creating expansive soundscapes, consisting of feeding his electric guitar as a single tone generator into a myriad of processed effect pedals, tweaking its parameters and combining them in ways to produce otherworldly sounds, then sampled in real time through a series of loop-sampler devices, mixed and pitched to create chaotic washes of noise from which fragile melodies are being extracted. The result used for this piece became a menacing cloud of minimal drone, slowly growing into saturated waves of vapor static that are being carried into several distinctive ebb and flow parts.

The first collaboration between these two musicians, Station seamlessly unifies two colossal universes.

Martin Dumais
Ferrochrome

[LTH005]

After engaging in a long history of collaborations (Les Jardiniers, Aun and Stärker to name a few), Martin Dumais leaves the pseudonyms behind to reveal the simplicity of his own name. And here, simplicity is key. Drifting between genres, Martin blends his myriad of influences into layered soundscapes. Ferrochrome is an alloy of unbalanced compositions, textured melodies and muddy undertones. Using the long established codes to better dissociate itself from the traditions, it paradoxically pays them hommage in every single sound.

Partly recorded on an old VHS, the musician was inspired by the fragility and unpredictability of the magnetic tape. This feeling of evanescence permeates at each listening; the hushing of the tape reminding us that nothing lasts. Evoking a quest into a future past, Ferrochrome is a mood more than a narrative. A feeling of perpetual motion, the pulsation of the bass remains constant, sometimes at the forefront, sometimes almost unperceivable. The engine never stops, advancing forward inexorably and leaving an impression of unsettlement.

CS Edition of 100 copies in Fold Out Cardboard Slip Case on White Cassette. 12 Tracks.
